Broadway is involved in many different ways within our community, through children’s and youth work (see also Young People), support for some of the most needy people on the Island, and through helping people to explore with faith in God could look like.

Renew Well is based around the’ 5 ways to wellbeing’ which promote good mental and emotional health – connect, give, be active, keep learning and take notice.

Graih is a Manx word meaning love and charity that no-one can pronounce!
Starting out of Broadway, Graih developed into independent charity. In 2022, the charity started the process of shutting down its operations, while the work once again became a direct part of the church.
The core of the work is a daily drop-in for homeless people and others in need, with access to a range of services. Alongside the drop-in, our work includes home visits and other aspects of community pastoral support. Sadly, emergency overnight accommodation is not currently offered, although the Isle of Man Government has undertaken to provide this in the near future.
Andy Feather, our Homeless Ministry Team Leader, manages all aspects of the work, assisted by Yvette Armstrong, our Drop-In Co-ordinator. At the heart of the drop-in is a small army of compassionate and skilled volunteers. Our aim is to offer hospitality, support and love to whoever comes through the door, to walk alongside people over the long term as a demonstration of God’s care.
Drop-In hours:
Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm
Sunday 12.30pm to 2pm
Stauros serves people who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs, and offers support to their families. A Stauros meeting runs every Thursday evening at Broadway, offering a safe and supportive environment for people struggling with addictions to find God’s strength for recovery.
‘Stauros’ is the New Testament Greek work for “cross of Christ”.
6 ways that Stauros helps:
1. Emphasise the importance of befrienders- establishing rapport between clients and pastoral care workers
2. Use pastoral care to enable clients to answer “do I have a problem with drink?”
3. Use pastoral care to develop clients’ own motivation to change
4. Help clients make plans for change
5. Address any underlying rational/emotional/behavioural patterns
6. Help build a Christian lifestyle
SUMT (Scripture Union Ministries Trust) works with over 90% of the Island’s churches, every secondary school and numerous primary schools. The heart of the organisation is to train, equip, resource, strengthen and support local churches in engaging with youth. Check out information on the Gap Year and other exciting things.
WHAT SUMT DOES
Curriculum (within a classroom context): In Curriculum sessions students are given opportunities to think through their own beliefs; they are never told what they should or shouldn’t believe. SUMT believes that God is interested in the development of every area of a child’s life, regardless of their personal faith choices. Therefore they want to partner with schools to help enhance the spiritual and moral aspects of the curriculum even if that means no faith content is delivered.
Discipleship (outside of a classroom context): SUMT believes that God is interested in giving children and young people opportunities to respond appropriately to the challenge of a Christian Worldview, particularly the challenge to follow Jesus Christ. Because of this they partner with schools and churches to provide places and opportunities for children and young people to ask questions, engage in teaching, and respond personally.
